Our Curriculum Approach
Montessori
We are not a Montessori center, however, we have incorporated aspects of the Montessori philosophy regarding being a guide to children, and allowing them to learn at their own pace. Older children become the 'teacher' to the younger children, building leadership skills. Children will be given individual activities that help them acquire independence and practical life skills.
Reggio Emilia
A project-based approach to learning. We are not a Reggio Emilia center, but borrow aspects of their philosophy which we agree with and believe in. Such as creating lessons based on the interests of the children, encouraging exploration and discovery of answers and solutions, rather than teacher-directed. Children learn about cooperation through various projects, how to solve and resolve problems and conflict.
Theme-Based Curriculum
We use a theme-based curriculum which is a research-based early learning curriculum. Monthly themes invite children to explore new ideas with a multi-sensory approach. Music, art, dramatic play, storytelling, games, books and experiments ignite imagination and bring each theme to life. Instead of having a day of disjoined activities, themes organize new information around a unified context, which results in a growing web of knowledge.
Multicultural
We create an environment where the exploration and learning of other countries, their cultures, traditions, foods, national dress, types of animals, climate, childhood chores, childhood games, language and more, will be a part of our learning experience.
Politeness, Manners & Virtues
Treating everyone with dignity and respect is a core principle here. With this in mind, being polite and using our manners will be expected from every child attending. These will be taught through the use of puppets and stories during circle time.
Child Portfolio
Throughout the year, we create a binder for each child, that will have various pieces of their work. We also include an assessment that will not only be academic but notes for you to see your child's progress with their cognitive development, social development, emotional development, physical development as well as academic progress.
